South Africa's economy is on a down fall

South Africa's economy slowing after an excellent few years

There are a number of things that are affecting our economy.Things like the unemployment rate that South Africa has.Our economy may also be at risk due to the number of strikes we have been having.South Africa may lose many investor because of the many strikes that have taken place and the many other strikes that have yet occurred. Why is it that we cannot communicate and reach an agreement without having to fight first? Is it because of our past as a nation? The reason i ask this question is because even our parents had to fight in order not to be taught in Afrikaans during the apartheid era.May be it is in our genes to fight first before we get what we want. What ever the reason might be i still think that all these strikes are and will affect  South Africa economy's future.

What may have started as one little strike might become  South Africa's biggest nightmare because many other mine show the need to strike in order for their demands to be met too.Already many investors are pulling out in the mining industry and other industries because of the lack of good communication both from the workers and the management. All these things have affected the food prices, transport, petrol and many other things.

With all these negative things where do we think we will be in ten years time?If we keep doing all these things that will affect our economy badly we will be faced with a lot of problems like the Rand and food prices have to go up.The media have been reporting about the chaos cause by the mining industry and also have been debating about how all these strikes will affect our cuntry'economy.

Way in which we can improve our economy
  • Teach the youth about entrepreneurship and enterprises
  • Invest in our product so that they are proudly South Africa and do not get foreign investors

Poor service delivery in South Africa

Khayelitsha the Largest township in Cape Town but it is still made up of shacks not even RDP Houses

It is has been 18 years since South Africa received it's democracy but South Africans are still complaining about poor service delivery.People are still complaining about houses, education, sanitation and also about the health services but i will be focusing on poor housing.

Many people are promised houses during election times by the different parties but they end up being disappointed because they never get what they were promised. They cause many people to lose hope and they end up not voting because most of them would say that they do not see the point of voting cause they do not see the change that they were promised. The ANC has made a lot of promises which can be seen as unrealistic because most of these promises are not realistic, not measurable, are not time bound and most of all are not achievable. Expectation is created but without commitment and a long term plan all these expectations will fail.Read more...

It is sad that most people in our country still live in these conditions but they are promised better housing all the time. The government provides RDP houses but are they safe enough for people to live in?Some people have to wait for years before they receive their houses and some of them never get the houses due to corruption.Meaning that the officials will sell their house to other desperate people or even to foreign people.

RDP house that is poorly build for the poor people

Causes of poor service delivery

  • Corruption
  • Lack of good leadership
  • Lack of skill in effective planning
  • Unwilling to admit the need for help from other parties
  • Lack of commitment from our leaders
The media has also reported about poor housing in rural areas or townships like Alex and Diepsloot. The living conditions in these areas are really bad and many people lose their life's because of one persons mistake. If one shack burns by mistake all the shacks might burn because they close to each other. In rainy seasons water get inside some of the shack or RDP house. The media has also reported about the protest in Khayelitsha about service delivery.Read more...

South Africa's poor leadership cause chaos

Julius Malema at the Marikana mine
South Africa's lack good leadership is causing more trouble than we all imagined. Our leaders are fighting amongst one another instead of finding solutions to the problems that our country  faces every day. They should be working together in bettering our country and try to meet all the demands of made by the people. They should not only interact with the people only if they need their votes but that's the case in South Africa. Here candidates will promise the people every little thing in order to get vote but at the end no results will be delivered. They should strive to better the country's situation and also work together and support each other and mostly support the decision made by the ruling party to show unity.

The violence of the past weeks at Marikana is proof that South Africa needs good leadership which will help in developing our country. This is good example of poor leadership because we saw different party fighting against the decision made by the ruling party.Julius Malema encouraging the miners to continue to fight instead of finding other alternatives to try and solve this  problem. He just encouraged them to continue to fight dispate the fact that many people died in that strike. That's why i say that they only come to the people when they need something or if they want to get back at the ruling party. It is never about the people and what is good for them.  Read more...

Striking miners at Marikana mine

South African really need to be careful in choosing their leaders in the future.Leaders that are are good and leaders that knows what the meaning of leadership. Our country needs leaderships in order to have good role models for the youth.Just imagine the youth looking up to Julius Malema and behaving like him.It would be the end of our country even though Julius does rise some good points sometimes but most of the time he is still stack in the apartheid era and everyone is against him.We need to elect good leaders in order to have a country that does not have violence and a country that looks out for the needs of it people not leaders who are only looking to make themselves rich at the expense of their people.

HIV and AIDS in South Africa

African continent showing that South Africa has the highest HIV rate
HIV and AIDS is a serious issue that all South Africans whether young or old.It has the highest and fastest infection rate of all the viruses i know about. It is said that 5.5 million people are infected with HIV and AIDS in South Africa and that there are 500 000 new infection every year. It is also said that 100 000 are children out the 500 000 and that each year 400 000 people die from this virus.Read more...

I am sure we have heard of HIV and AIDS and its outcomes whether from the Radio,TV or Newspapers, the fact is that we know about HIV and AIDS.So why do we pretend like we not to know what would happen if we have sex with different people without using a condom? Why do we like taking chances with our health?Even though we know what the end results will be,we still act unresponsively and childish. HIV and AIDS affect all of us whether you are infected or not the fact is that someone you might know may be infected or even someone in you family. It time we deal with this issue and stop pretending like its not there or keeping quit about it.Man and women are being killed by this virus and the elderly are left to take care of their infected children. It time all South Africa take charge of their lives and be responsible. We must not act in the moment but we must think for every action we make and their outcomes.HIV and AIDS is here to stay if we do not make responsible decisions now.

How to avoid getting infection
  • Abstain
  • Be faithful to one partner
  • Use condoms all the time
  • If pregnant test early in order to protect your unborn child
  • Avoid touching other people's blood
  • Circumcised men have less chances of being infected  but this does not mean they should not use condoms
If you would like to know more about HIV and AIDS there are organisation like Love Life. This Organisation target the youth and teach them about HIV and AIDS and other issues that are related to sex. The government should also more in organisation like these and also ensures that everyone get tested whether it out of their own will or not. This will help cause every one will know their status. If we could work together we can bit HIV and AIDS and have an  HIV and AIDS free generation.

South Africa's poor health service

A group of Patients waiting to see Doctor in Etwatwa Clinic

South Africa is amongst the many countries in Africa that has poor health care services.Despite the fact that employed  South Africans pay their tax it is not enough because the majority of South African are unemployed. This simply means that the funds that comes the taxes will not be enough to cover the entire country's health care services. The cause of poor health care is not having enough Doctor and nurses in our country. This means that other professionals from foreign countries are employed. Therefore this means that our country's economy to decrease.

The right to health care was written  into the constitution because President Nelson Mandela saw the need to improve the poor health service more especially in rural areas. Most of the people who are in rural  areas  are the ones that experience poor service and it is getting worse. They have to wait in long line at the clinic in order to be helped. This is because they can not afford to go to Private hospitals and you find that most of them have travel long distances to get to the clinic because in many rural areas there is only one clinic per region.Read more...

Our government should invest in building medical school in all nine provinces of South Africa and also offer the bursaries. This will means that all nine provinces will have invested inverted in all those that were offered the bursaries and once they complete they will be required to work in their province in order to try and solve this issue of employing foreign professionals and we will have more South African professional Doctors, nurses etc. This will also encourage the pupils that are still in schools  to have more interest in the medical field because some do not consider cause it is expensive to study medicine and also the fact that have to relocate to other provinces.Read more...

If our government could invest more in training our youth and fund them we could find our country having more professionals which will open other doors for them to work in other foreign countries. This will also mean that fewer complains about negligence from patients will be made because there will be enough workers and they will have enough time to rest cause most of them are over worked and do not get enough time to rest.

Few South Africans in work

This graph shows the unemployment rate in South Africa from the 2000 up until 2006

The unemployment rate of black South Africans alone has increase from 13% in the 1990s to 25% in the late 2000. South Africa is consider one of the highest countries with unemployment rate. In a situation like this, where do we start in solving such a problem? Yes we have many people with tertiary qualifications but is this enough?More and more young people graduate from universities but it is very difficult for them to find jobs because experience is always required.

The problem lies within our Education system. They should make sure that programmes like NYDA and Setas are available through out the country to help develop their skills. These programmes should assist every South African to ensure that they get a job. By doing this it will help them to have more experience and also help them in developing their skills in various sectors.

We can sit and and complain but one has  to take charge of their lives. Education can be where we start and government should also create more skill developing programmes like NYDA and Sites. This will encourage more young people to get educated or to go to schools because they will be reassured that once they complete school a job will be waiting for them.It is really discouraging to go tertiary and not get a job once you are done. If we can achieve this goal as a country, one can imagine where we would be in 2030.May be than South Africa will be amongst the richest countries in the world. Read more...

South Africa a play ground for crime

Jackie Selebi found guilty of corruption
South Africa has the highest prison population in Africa and the 3rd highest in the world. This simply shows that most South Africans are involve in criminal activities. How does this reflect on our image to our fellow Africans and to the rest of the world. What does this say about our moral and values?
Crimes that are increasing South Africa
  • Fraud
  •  Rape and sexual assaults
  • Drug trafficking
  • Domestic violence
  • Hate crime and murder
Most of the crimes in our country are not solved by the police due to corruption that is within the SAPS and the lack of passion for their work. They are there to serve our country and protect it but instead they are destroying and they are also giving criminals from other countries to walk all over us.

Mr and Mrs Dewani
On your right hand side you see a young couple that seems to be very happy but this man organized two South African men to kidnap and kill his wife on their honeymoon in Cape Town. These are the results we are getting as a nation because we do not think about our future when we see or when we offered a chance to make  quick and easy way to make money. Read more...

Minister S'bu Ndebele says that 40% of those who are behind bars are between the ages of 18 and 25 year of age. This says a lot about the youth of our country and the lack of role models or leadership. If they had good role model who worked hard in achieving their success they would probably follow their foot steps. They would see that there are no short cut in life. More and more young people are drawn into a life of crime for the easy buck and they forget about the outcomes.Read more...

The youth is not putting much energy into their Education but putting it in wrong things. They should view Education as an investment that no one can ever take away from them. They should also  persevere in all the situation that they are in whether it is poverty or being surrounded by crime . All good things come to those who wait and they should remember that education is only key to success and to escape poverty.
